Last Day to Save the World!

Posted on Oct 20th, 2008 by ItsWill : Atrayu & Bastian ItsWill
Project 10^100's Submission Deadline was today.  Did you get your plan to save the world submitted?

If you haven't heard yet, Google created a $1M virtual carrot for anyone to submit a brief plan to save the world.  The submissions will be narrowed down to 100 by sometime mid-January, then public voting ensues.  Those not selected as winners have the option of allowing interested financers to contact them regardless.  This means that as of today, there is a virtual, HIGHLY VISUAL database of ideas to change the world for any philanthropist or corporation to comb through...

Here was my submission:

What one sentence best describes your idea?  (Maximum 150 characters)

Write a graphic novel on evolutionary history and how precious human beings are, rekindling passion in the proletariat for a brightening future. (144 characters)

Describe your idea in more depth (Maximum 300 words)

Humanity is becoming ever-more image focused. The next inspirational literature will have to evolve in what it offers.  Cosmic expansion suggests this is the only time consciousness, the conceptualization of reality through technology and interpretation, will be able to explore its furthest reaches.  As the six senses of consciousness, Humanity is too important to destroy itself.  As a culmination of all life's done to achieve it, we are indebted to our parental biology.

Use a first person plural point of view to narrate a graphic novel about evolutionary theory, from the "Big Bang" to current Information Age.  "We" (the narrator) is initially the electric and magnetic axes of electromagnetism, spiraling in Dark Matter, building momentum/mass/momentum.  "We" telescopes from galaxies to star systems to planets undergoing geological events.  "We" living cells cling to a sulfurous rift in the ocean floor, evolving through the variety of species along with intelligence through cerebral flexibility.  "We" biological beings become vertebrate, amphibian, reptilian, mammalian...then primate and human.  "We" humans are freed from basic food/shelter needs by growing communities; casteism is established so a few can develop technology and explore the sacred.  "We" form mercantile and familial alliances alongside a natural selection of governance.  "We" explore, conquer, capture, dissect, photograph, and study reality as an increasingly comfortable and educated cosmopolitan. "We" are that cosmopolitan populace, now 6.4 billion points-of-view, articulating a growing range of extreme and mundane experiences.  In the information age, "We" are like 6.4 billion neurons of an enormous Mind.  The virtual reality composite of mass media and iconic consumerism is a lucid dream, the pinnacle of "Our" phases.

The Pen Name for the narrator will be "Unanimous."  A team of artists can progress this narrative into a graphic novel, so that the tale is wholly interesting.  Art will also help convey comprehension.  (299 words)

What problem or issue does your idea address? (maximum 150 words)

Apathy is the worst plague modern society faces.  Empathy, for the world in its whole, is the initial spark required for healing it.  Narrate a tale that personalizes the fact life has reached this Information Age.  Entertain people into appreciating the miraculous work life invested to achieve its current potential!  An addiction to altruism cures apathy.  Cosmology provides the sense of urgency without reducing our overwhelming wonder to one branch in the widening gap between science and religion.

Scientific processes continue to give reason; sets of belief continue to give direction.  Integralism is bridging the gap with scholarship that is beyond comprehension for an audience who lacks interest.  My idea is one that brings that bridge down into the stream of information.  If you want to influence flow, don't bridge gaps.  Damn them.  Bring the concepts out of dualistic right or wrong, into communal understanding.  (145 words)

If your idea were to become a reality, who would benefit the most and how? (maximum 150 words)

Who benefits most from the HDTV series Planet Earth? Viewers are inspired to preserve what they see and learn more.  Entertain and educate.  We came to this point, not just personally, but collectively.  Our collective experience is significant, no matter how mundane each individual feels.  People will want to share that joy, and then preserve it for our children.

Graphic Novels appeal to an audience that spans three generations, growing in popularity with every superhero movie Hollywood churns out.  In the late ‘80s and throughout the ‘90s, the medium flexed mental capacities through authors like Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman.  The genre now has the competence of literature coupled with illustration advancing as expeditiously as Daz or Adobe.

I have worked in a chain bookstore for five years.  I have earned a BFA in Literary Journalism with a Minor in English.  I know what elements make a blockbuster novel. (149 words)

What are the initial steps required to get this idea off the ground? (maximum 150 words)

The first step is to create a community of authors and artists who want to narrate/draw a headache.  Then, feed and house us while we work.  This project would generate jobs for authors, graphic designers, sketch board artists, screen writers, computer scientists, research associates, business and marketing management.  It can be a unique way to boost a local economy from the ground up, providing steady work for a broad base of diverse jobs, due to the immensity of what needs to come together in a short timeline. (87 words)

Describe the optimal outcome should your idea be selected and successfully implemented.  How would you measure it? (maximum 150 words)

Humanity is at a cusp, as anyone will tell you.  I want this to be published on a day of significance in the year 2012.  This year is quickly gaining as much fervor as the millennium did, so why not create a coincidence?  If a message is timed right, it goes beyond rhetoric and transcends our darkest moments.

The success in this venture cannot be traditionally quantified.  Humanity continues to undermine its own potential in a most subtle, overlooked reason:  a lack of faith in that potential.  It is hard to imagine how renewed appreciation for life will motivate people towards change.  Entertain people into a greater appreciation for all that life is, and all that was required to bring them each to this point.  Inspire every reader to take action healing his or her own life, and the lives of those around him or her.
(146 words)

If you'd like to recommend a specific organization, or the ideal type of organization, to execute your plan, please do so here.  (maximum 50 words)

Integral Institute out of Boulder, Colorado, could provide references for scholars to Vertigo comics, whose artists are already redefining myths and science fiction.  Gaiam could provide marketing and advertising, making it more accessible to us, the cosmopolitan collective.
